Greek poet Nikos Hatzinikolaou passed away last Friday in a hospital in the Polish city of Pozna. Nobel prize-winner Odysseus Elytis had referred to the late writer’s “poetic mastery”. According to the Internet site, OET.PL, Nikos Hatzinikolaou – a poet, translator and historical author – had translated works by 538 Greek writers and 130 Polish authors.
He had published over 100 books and organised the International November Poetry Meetings and the International Poetry Festival in Halkida, Greece. The Polish poet, Ryszard Danecki – co-organiser of the poetry meetings – also referred to the close relations of the late Greek poet with Poland and his important literary works.
