“Thanos” gets a minimum of 20 years and a lesson he will never forget

Thanos Papalexis the son of Emmanuel Papalexis founder of Mare Maritime today paid a heavy price for the criminal act he committed in murdering Charalambos Christodoulides in 2000, the innocent caretaker of a warehouse in Hammersmith, with a life sentence which will mean a minimum of twenty years in prison.

The judge in the case described Thanos Papalexis as a “totally immoral person” and had treated his victim as “expendable”.

Those who worked close with Thanos are still in denial that the well spoken, well educated Greek Londoner was capable of this horrendous crime against a compatriot Greek.

A senior member of the Greek shipping community said the following to the London Daily News straight after the news that Thanos Papalexis was sentenced to 20 years in prison:

“The Papaelexis name prior to Thanos getting involved in property was held in high regard with his father and brother operating legally and professionally at all times. Thanos for some unknown reason believed he could be James Bond and avoid the law. Unfortunately he destroyed the lives of many people including his immediate family. Today our thoughts are with the family of Charalambos Christoulouides who lost a brother and uncle for one reason only, money”.

Speaking after the case a former employee of Thanos Papalexis who worked at the Holloway site said:

“He deserves everything he gets. He lied to us all and above all lied to the people who wanted him to do well”.

Thanos Papalexis emerged from a shipping family to enter the world of property development having seen some of his close friends do extremely well in the north and central London residential development markets, and Thanos simply wanted to be another “big shot”. Sources close to Thanos revealed he always had a disdain for the successful Greek-Cypriots who managed to ride the wave in property, buying cheap in the late 1980s and selling high in the late 1990s when the market had peaked. Driving a black Lotus Esprit in Holloway Thanos gave the impression he was already a self-made millionaire and using the shipping background of his father he managed to finance the acquisition of a warehouse in Holloway in 1998. At the time Thanos said of his “new acquisition”:

“I used to drive pass in my Lotus and saw this warehouse I wanted to buy it and turn into a Miami style Oasis development”.

In 1998 Thanos Papalexis started the “Oasis development” in Holloway which consisted of thirty-two residential units and was marketed and sold as a high quality stylish block to live in.

However Thanos lack of experience and shear cocaine fuelled arrogance meant he would over-spend, use unskilled local labour, from eastern Europe and Greece that proved overwhelming decisive in the failure of the “Oasis residential development” in Holloway.

But what lead a well educated, well raised and affluent man to murder someone like Charalambos?

Simple, Thanos has so lost sight of what he was doing he would lie, cheat, steal and eventually murder to make a profit and then say to his father “there you go dad I am a success”.

The Greek shipping community in London are all shocked that “one of theirs” did such a heinous thing, and in fact never really learnt his lesson. Thanos Papalexis fled London in 2000 when things went wrong at the Oasis and then started in business in Florida pretty much following the same pattern as in London, according to reports and court papers.

Now destined to spend his life in a dingy cell, Thanos who had the potential to be a success like his peers will be languishing at Her Majesty’s pleasure in a cess pool of failure and destruction. Thanos will be nearly sixty years before he gets out of prison, by then his son will have married, his former wife will have probably remarried, his name will have been forgotten, all because he wanted to be a “big-shot developer”.
