4.9 Earthquake Jolts Nafpaktos

An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale was recorded at 5:30 AM on Wednesday in an area 11 km (6.8 miles) southwest of Nafpaktos and with focal depth 5 kilometers, the National Observatory of Athens Geodynamics Institute stated.

The quake was felt in many areas in Achaia, Etoloakarnania, Corinth and Fokida.

A second tremor was recorded at 6:38 on Wednesday with its epicenter close to the earlier 4.9 Richter quake.

The Geodynamics Institute of the National Observatory of Athens said that the second quake measured 4.1 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was located 13 km (8 miles) east of Nafpaktos. Its focal depth was roughly 8 kilometers down into the earth.

No injuries or damages have been reported so far.

The location of the first quaker, according to the United States Geological Service, was 38.334°N 22.024°E.
