FIFA Honors “Hellas Melbourne”


On the 11th of May, “Hellas Melbourne” will be honored in a special ceremony in London, held by FIFA, as the top team in Oceania, whilst a few days later, on the 25th of May, its football team will be playing its first match in Singapore, whereby they have been invited to take part along with other groups from the wider Asian territory.

Lerounis is Finally Free


A Greek man who has lived for years in northern Pakistan is free and in good condition seven months after being kidnapped by suspected Afghan Taliban. Athanasios Lerounis ran a welfare center and school in Chitral district, and has lived in northern Pakistan since the mid-1990s. He was kidnapped by some 30 gunmen believed to be from neighboring Afghanistan in a September encounter that killed a security guard.

Greek Easter in Hollywood


Every year the Christian Orthodox population of Los Angeles gathers at the Saint Sophia Cathedral for the celebration of the Holy Week which leads to the Ressurection Liturgy on Good Saturday.  The difference here is that among the faithfull there are also many Hollywood celebrities  such as Tom Hanks (photo left) and his wife Rita Wilson, Nia Vardalos, Maria Menounos and 20th Century CEO Jim Gianopulos.

“Holy Light” of Greek Easter


The “Holy Light” from the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Jerusalem will be transferred to Athens on Bright Saturday (Orthodox Easter) with a government executive flight via Tel Aviv. The aircraft will arrive at Athens’ Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport at 18.30 and will be received with heads of state honors.
